Consent and a certified on-set intimacy coordinator are essential to the freedom to be creative.

 

An intimacy coordinator is an professional advocate, a liaison between actors and production in regards to nudity and simulated sex or other hyper-exposure. Intimacy coordination is put in place to help defend against ethical and legal conflicts.

Meet Annie Spong

Annie Spong is a certified Intimacy Coordinator, with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators. As a seasoned costume designer, she is no newbie. She understands compassion and empathy must be the lead as an Intimacy Coordinator, utilizing both for the vision of the project as well as the people coming to play and manifest it.
She uses her years of training in conflict resolution, communication, emotional intelligence, movement training, and discernment to guide her professionalism in practicum. It is her deep belief is we must constantly be a contribution and inclusive in everything we do.

Approach

  • Creates healthy and productive dialogue between actors and the director about the project;

  • Serves as a resource in realizing the production’s vision;

  • Strives to build an environment that ensures clear communication with actors regarding any nudity, simulated sex, or hyper-exposed situations in order for them to give their informed and continued consent;

  • Assumes the role of a movement choreographer if requested by the director, writers, or producers to enhance authenticity;

  • Ensures that performers and other production personnel adhere to SAG-AFTRA guidelines and proper safety and closed-set protocols;
